Swim with Whale Sharks, Dive the Sea of Cortez & Experience the Sardine Run in Magdalena Bay

November 1 – November 8, 2025

Get ready for a journey into the heart of one of the world’s most biodiverse oceans—the Sea of Cortez. Known as the “Aquarium of the World” by Jacques Cousteau, this is no ordinary dive destination.

In the Sea of Cortez, you’ll experience marine life on a grand scale. This is one of the world’s best places to swim with whale sharks, gliding alongside these gentle giants whose sheer size and grace will leave you in awe. As you explore, you’ll encounter playful sea lions darting through the water, pods of dolphins leaping from the surface, and the occasional orca or manta ray gliding majestically beneath you. These waters are a playground for the ocean’s most awe-inspiring creatures.

💀 Why This Trip is Extra Special

This isn’t just an ocean adventure — it’s also a front-row seat to one of Mexico’s most meaningful and colorful cultural celebrations: Día de los Muertos.

The Diving

When we’re not swimming with whale sharks, we’ll be exploring some of the best dive sites in the Sea of Cortez. Its crystal-clear waters and diverse dive sites offer something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned divers. The region is famous for its playful sea lion colonies at Los Islotes, where divers can interact with curious pups in shallow waters. The surrounding waters are teeming with life, including whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, mobula rays, making it a prime spot for big animal experiences.

Whale Shark Snorkel

Get ready to swim alongside the largest fish on Earth — the majestic whale shark. Despite their enormous size (up to 20 meters long and weighing over 30 tons!), these gentle giants feed on nothing more than plankton and tiny fish. Their sheer size, slow grace, and distinctive checkerboard pattern make them one of the ocean’s most unforgettable sights.

We’ll take you to a special area in the Sea of Cortez where we can encounter up to a dozen whale sharks at once — calmly gliding through the shallows as we snorkel beside them.

Snorkeling Safari: Magdalena Bay

From mid-October to December, the nutrient-rich waters off Magdalena Bay come alive with one of nature’s most thrilling spectacles—the second largest sardine run in the world. As massive schools of sardines swarm, predators like dolphins, sea lions, and sharks gather to hunt, creating an unforgettable underwater show. This snorkel safari puts you right in the heart of the action!
