What is Oktoberfest?
History and Tradition
Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a royal wedding celebration for Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese. The people of Munich were invited to join in the festivities, which included horse races, feasting, and drinking. Over time, the event grew into a larger festival with beer tents, carnival rides, and music.
Prost!
The event is most famous for its beer, with attendees enjoying specially brewed Oktoberfest beers that are made by six major Munich breweries: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Löwenbräu, Münchener, Paulaner, and Spaten. These beers are typically Märzen-style lagers, which are brewed in March and traditionally served during the festival. The beer is served in large steins (liter mugs) and is a central part of the experience.

Cultural Experience
Oktoberfest celebrates Bavarian culture with traditional food like pretzels, sausages, and roasted chicken. Visitors often wear dirndls and lederhosen, and lively polka music fills the air, creating a festive atmosphere.
