Dive into one of the wildest, most biodiverse corners of the Eastern Tropical Pacific — Coiba National Park, Panama.

We’re heading deep into one of the last truly wild dive frontiers in the Americas. Located off Panama’s Pacific coast, Coiba National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor — a protected sanctuary home to rich reef systems, pelagic life, and some of the best big animal diving in this region of the world.

We’ve chosen to go in June, right when the action heats up. It’s bull shark breeding season, hammerheads are more likely to appear along the outer pinnacles, and humpback whales begin to pass through. With excellent visibility and almost no dive traffic, every site feels like an untouched secret.

This is exactly the kind of trip we seek out at Global Adventures for Scuba Divers — off-the-grid, rich in biodiversity, and rooted in a real connection to the ocean.

Coiba National Park is one of the last truly wild dive frontiers in the Americas. Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and made up of Coiba Island and 38 surrounding islets, this remote Pacific paradise is home to lush jungle, mangroves, beaches — and some of the most biodiverse marine life anywhere in the region.

Just a short 25-minute boat ride from shore, we’ll access dramatic underwater topography, thriving coral reefs, and world-class big animal encounters. With over 33 species of sharks, including hammerheads and bull sharks, plus manta rays, turtles, and massive schools of jacks, tuna, and barracuda, Coiba delivers truly wild diving — minus the crowds. It’s not uncommon to see sharks on every dive.

Expect drift dives, blue water pelagic action, and macro life hidden among pristine coral. Thanks to the park’s remote location, limited dive pressure, and small-group philosophy — Coiba’s reefs remain virtually untouched.

Still relatively unknown compared to Cocos or Galápagos, Coiba is one of the best-kept secrets in the Eastern Tropical Pacific — and one of the most rewarding destinations for experienced divers seeking raw beauty, rich biodiversity, and real adventure.

Hammer Time!

June hits the sweet spot for diving Coiba — and if you’re into sharks, this is your month.

This is when hammerheads are more likely to appear, cruising the outer pinnacles and deep reef edges. It’s also bull shark breeding season, so sightings of these apex predators are more frequent and more dramatic. Add to that the early arrival of humpback whales and the steady presence of pelagics drawn in by nutrient-rich upwellings, and you’ve got action above and below the surface.

Visibility is often excellent this time of year, and with so few boats in the area, dive sites feel wild and untouched — like you’re the first to discover them.

Remote, Relaxed, and Rooted in Nature

We’ll be staying at a Boutique Eco-Lodge, a small, sustainable retreat perched on a hillside overlooking Coiba National Park. Tucked between jungle and sea, the lodge is simple, welcoming, and intentionally off the grid — the kind of place where you wake up to the sound of howler monkeys and end your day with a cold drink and a glowing sunset over the Pacific.

Accommodations are comfortable and low-impact, blending into the forest with ceiling fans, jungle views, and natural light. With just a few rooms and a maximum of 8 guests, it’s an intimate setting that invites connection — with nature, with fellow divers, and with yourself.

The lodge is fully solar-powered, with water sourced from rain collection and fresh local springs. Meals are made from scratch using local, seasonal ingredients — fresh-caught fish, organic produce, and homemade touches from a team that truly cares. You won’t find white tablecloths here, but you will find delicious food, warm hospitality, and a setting that makes you feel right at home.
